About This Project

Traveling Through Time & World History

Students were tasked with completing a multi-stage project inspired by Octavia Butler's Kindred (1979). In the novel, the main character Dana, a young Black writer from Los Angeles, is suddenly sent back in time to rescue a distant relative from danger during in the antebellum South.

For the project, students also researched a time connected to their own personal heritage where time travel might put them in great danger. Students researched their family heritage and researched historically accurate survival kits in preparation for their final step: a short story or an anatomy of my kit poster.
